Curiosidades de Inglaterra (o por lo menos de Milton Keynes)
- Hay muchas furgonetas de helados que, para hacernos saber que han llegado, llevan puesta la típica música de carrito de helados. Sí, como en las películas.
- Hay puertas automáticas, las normales de cristal, que requieren que presiones un gran botón para que se abran.
- Sí, comemos (almorzamos) a las 12:00. Sí, cenamos a las 6:00.
- Hay varias organizaciones de girlguiding ("exploradoras"): Brownies, Rainbows y Girlguides. Son como los scouts pero en versión femenina.
- Los niños terminan la escuela el último día de junio, pero continúan hasta mediados de julio para saber un poco sobre el próximo año académico. De esta froma, pueden conocer sus clases, sus profesores, una introducción a la lección ...
- Hay muchos carril bici en Milton Keynes. Para hacerte una idea, ¡puedes ir desde las afueras al centro de la ciudad siguiéndolos! Pero es cierto que es muy difícil no perderse (sí, experiencia personal).
- El correo es exactamente como el de las películas de Harry Potter, excepto que las cartas no vuelan (¡Qué lástima!). Las primeras veces tuve grandes sustos debido a la caída del correo a través del buzón.
- En la televisión puedes ver todo tipo de anuncios: sobre Facebook, sobre la adopción de animales (los burros son tan monos...), Martin freeman en un anuncio de Vodafone, Ellie Goulding en otro ...
- La basura debe colocarse en la parte delantera de la casa porque los camiones de basura (llamados dust men "hombres de polvo") vienen los martes. Con toda esa basura en la calle, muchas aves (tal vez housemartins o estorninos, que también se agrupan en los tejados) se acercan a picotear alrededor de estas fechas.
-Hay muchos cuervos y/o mirlos por todas partes, junto con urracas a las que adoro mirar mientras saltan.
-Los conductores noveles no usan la típica L española en la parte posterior del coche, sino que llevan una P. Las reglas relacionadas con el tiempo que tienes que mostrarlas en el coche son diferentes y dependen de la edad del conductor. Creo que hay incluso de diferentes colores, y se debe poner primero la L, con la que puedes conducir sin el carnet pero bajo la supervision de un adulto; después la P, y hay dos colores.
England’s curiosities (Milton Keynes at least)
- There are lots of ice cream vans which, to let you know they have arrived, they sound the typical music. Yes, like in films.
- There are automatic doors which need you to push a big botton to go in.
- Yes we have lunch at 12 o’clock. Yes we have dinner at 6 o’clock.
- There are several girlguiding organizations, such as Brownies, Rainbows and Girlguides. They are like scouts but in female version.
- Children finish school the last day of June but they continue untill mid July in order to know a bit about the next academic year. Thus, they can know their classes, their teachers, an introduction to the lesson…
- There are plenty of cycle paths in Milton Keynes. To give you an idea, you can go from the outskirts to the center of the city following them! But it is true that is very difficult not to get lost (yes, personal experience).
- The mail is exactly like the one in Harry Potter’s films, except that the letters don’t fly (What a shame!!). The very first times I had big scares due to the falling of the mail through the letter box.
- On TV you can watch all types of commercials: about Facebook, about adopting animals (donkeys are so cute), Martin freeman in a Vodafone commercial, Ellie Goulding in another…
- The rubbish has to be placed at the front of the house because the rubbish truck (called dust men) comes on Tuesdays. With all that rubish in the street, a lot of birds (maybe housemartins or starlings, which also group together on the roofs) go near to peck about around this season.
-There are a lots of ravens/crows or blackbirds everywhere, along with magpies which I adore looking while jumping.
-Novel drivers don’t use the typical spanish L at the back of the car, instead they have a P. The rules concerned with the time you have to show it in the car are different and they depend on the age of the driver. I think that there are even different colors, and you should put the L first, with which you can drive without the license but under the supervision of an adult; then the P, and there are two colors.
